A Wheat Pulls Back and Opens Its Stomach

26.6. - 27.10.2024

Oulu Art Museum, as a part of Tomun Tieto / Listen to the Dust exhibition, Curated by Selina Väliheikki.

Thank You Kone Foundation, Valo Vairio and Tatu Laurila.

Imagine a landscape with a meadow. The entire cycle of organisms is present in the landscape. The melting bodies sink towards the ground, the bacteria and the emotional world they carry with them spreads into the compost, intertwining with the rest of the soil's life.

Imagine that the plants growing out of the soil are the language of the earth.

"A Wheat Pulls Back and Opens Its Stomach" is a misreading of Ariana Reines poem "Blue Palestine".

The installation studies a dyeing body and its melting on a ground, and  how part of the life in it spreads on the ground and diffuses into its living. The only part of the body that continues living are the bacterias, which have been feeling in us. The work, made of sand, jute, pigments, dried flowers and aluminium studies meadows and sees the shapes, rhythms and colors as the new language and life of our emotional entity. The aluminium sculptures on both sides of the installation depict the sound of the meadow.

Good bye dear Minnamari Toukola.
